KENDARI, KOMPAS.com– Governor of Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) Andi Sumangerukka welcomed the 2026 Regional Sulawesi Regional Government (Pemda) Achievement Appreciation event which was held by the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) in Kendari, Friday (29/5/2026).
According to Andi, the appointment of the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Government (Pemprov) as the host of this activity has had a positive impact on the economy of Bumi Anoa, especially in Kendari City.
“After the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) gave us the opportunity, the economy of Southeast Sulawesi, especially Kendari, (moved) extraordinary. Now it’s already difficult to find a hotel room, sir,” he said in a live broadcast of the Sulawesi Regional 2026 Regional Government Achievement Appreciation event on the Kompas.com YouTube channel, Friday.
On that occasion, Andi warmly welcomed the arrival of the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago, Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian, and Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) Maruarar Sirait.
Andi also appreciated the PKP Ministry which was considered successful in increasing the housing assistance quota for Southeast Sulawesi significantly.

“Last year (2025) we only got 1,000 houses. Currently (2026), we got 8,000 houses. It’s extraordinary, the increase is 700 percent. That can move the economy,” he said.
Andi hopes that the 2026 Regional Sulawesi Regional Government Achievement Appreciation event will be able to strengthen the synergy between the central government and regional governments in encouraging equitable national development.

The event was also attended by Kompas Gramedia Media CEO Andi Budiman.

In his speech, Andi emphasized the important role of positive journalism in supporting regional progress.
Quoting a message from Kompas Gramedia founder Jakob Oetama, he emphasized that the media must not tire of voicing the people’s conscience while building public optimism.
“Our job is not only to convey information, but also to convey optimism, maintain healthy public spaces, and strengthen public confidence in national development,” he said.
