JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com- BRIN Senior Political Researcher Lili Romli assesses that Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) are still “checking the waves” before inaugurating their position as the party’s Advisory Board.

According to Lili, this allegation arose because PSI had just submitted plans to appoint Jokowi to the Board of Trustees, but until now had not officially included the former president’s name in the management structure.
“If it’s just a statement, but he doesn’t actually become Chairman of the Board of Trustees officially listed in the management structure, it’s not official yet. Maybe Jokowi is actually trying to test the waters, whether the public responds positively or negatively to Jokowi joining PSI,” said Lili when contacted by Kompas.com, Saturday (13/6/2026).

他表示，此举可以理解为衡量公众对佐科与PSI之间政治亲密程度的反应。
此外，PSI已确认将在不久的将来与佐科威一起前往多个地区进行政治考察。
“是的，没错，看来我们还在检查海浪。”莉莉解释道。
He considered that if the political safari was carried out in the name of PSI, then Jokowi’s status as part of the party management should have been formalized first.
“If you want to go on a political safari in the name of PSI, you should already be an official administrator. If not, the public will ask what capacity the safari is in: as the father of the PSI General Chair or a PSI sympathizer,” said Lili.

Lili believes that clarity on this status is important so as not to raise questions among the public regarding Jokowi’s position in PSI’s political activities.
“That’s what it should be like when Safari officially joins PSI, so the position as administrator is clear,” he stressed.
On the other hand, Lili admitted that Jokowi still had political influence that could benefit PSI.

“作为前总统，当然还有很多追随者和忠诚者。他们有可能会提供支持。但是，这种支持不会像佐科威就任总统时那么强大、那么大，会有所下降。”莉莉总结道。
As previously reported, PSI DPP Chairman Bestari Barus confirmed that Jokowi would immediately serve on the PSI Advisory Board.
